Kedron Elementary was honored in six of nine health areas, more than any other Fayette school named. J.C. Booth Middle won the county volleyball title 10-0.

Kedron Elementary School in Peachtree City has been named one of the 2026 America’s Healthiest Schools. The award comes from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national nonprofit.

Fayette County Public Schools announced the honor Oct. 7. Three of its elementary schools made the list, and Kedron was recognized in more areas than either of the others.

What Kedron was honored for

The award covers nine health topics. A school is recognized in each topic where its policies and practices meet the alliance’s standard. Kedron was honored in six, the district said:

  • school health services
  • its local school wellness policy
  • nutrition and food access
  • physical education and activity
  • tobacco-free schools
  • family and community engagement

The other two Fayette schools on the list were each honored in two topics:

  • Peeples Elementary, on Panther Path, which serves part of Peachtree City’s Braelinn village: school health services, and physical education and activity
  • Robert J. Burch Elementary in Tyrone, about six miles north: school health services and its local school wellness policy

The three are among 1,376 schools across the country honored this year, the district said. The award recognizes “evidence-based policies and practices” that support academic success and the health of the whole child. Del Monte Foods, Kaiser Permanente and Kohl’s Cares support the program.

Kedron is the largest of the seven elementary schools inside the city limits, with 864 students in the state’s 2024-25 count. Its 2025 state report card score was 94. Our Kedron Elementary guide has the zone, the report card and bell times.

J.C. Booth wins the county volleyball title unbeaten

J.C. Booth Middle School’s volleyball team won the county middle school championship. The Warriors beat Rising Starr Middle 25-19, 25-21 in the final, according to the district’s report, also posted Oct. 7.

Booth finished the season 10-0. The district said every match was won in straight sets, and no opponent scored more than 21 points in a set.

The team is coached by Maggie Burke and Kim Kozak. “I couldn’t be more proud of this group,” Burke said in the district’s report. “They trusted one another, fought for every ball, and refused to let the circumstances determine the outcome.”

Booth is the zoned middle school for about 63% of the city’s homes. Rising Starr, the runner-up, sits on Panther Path just south of the city and serves the Braelinn village.
