What the festival is
The city’s Recreation and Special Events Department runs Shakerag as a show of handcrafted goods; vendors apply with photos of their work and the city chooses who exhibits. The rules say every item must be handcrafted by the seller. Kits, manufactured goods and anything computer-generated, Cricut-made or 3D-printed are not allowed, and vendors may sell only the items the city approved on their application.
On the Saturday of the 2024 festival the city posted that it had more than 100 artisan and food vendors.
Vendors must stay open for both full days, rain or shine, so the show runs in bad weather too.
Parking and getting there
The festival is on McIntosh Trail, off Peachtree Parkway. The city keeps the parking at Shakerag Knoll and the McIntosh Trail Recreation Complex for festival visitors. Vendors and their helpers park at Huddleston Elementary School, 200 McIntosh Trail, across the street, and are not allowed to park in the festival area.
What to know
- Pets: vendors may not bring pets. The city’s festival information does not set a rule for visitors; call the department if you plan to bring a dog.
- Smoking: not allowed in the festival area; it is allowed in the parking lots.
- Alcohol: not allowed at any city recreation complex without a permit.
- Ground: booths stand on natural ground among trees and stumps, and the terrain is uneven, so wear sensible shoes and plan for a stroller on grass.
