Starting a business in Peachtree City

The city does not issue a separate business license. Instead, every business located in the city, including home-based businesses, pays an annual occupational tax and receives a certificate, according to the city’s Business Registration page:

  1. Get zoning approval from the Planning Department.
  2. Pass a fire inspection if you are not home-based or are a daycare.
  3. Apply at City Hall with the new business application packet (PDF), including notarized SAVE and E-Verify affidavits and photo ID. City Hall has notaries.

Fees: a $20 administration fee for every business, a minimum of $107 covering the first four employees and a maximum of $6,176; the tax portion is cut in half for new businesses that register after July 1. A business that pays the city does not need a Fayette County license, though state rules may apply. Alcohol sales need a separate city alcohol license. Renewal notices go out in November; certificates must be renewed by Jan. 31.
