The race

The Classic is run by the Peachtree City Running Club. Both courses are USATF-certified. The 5K is a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta, and the 15K is an RRCA state championship event, according to the race page.

The courses use the city’s paved golf cart paths, past lakes, through tunnels and over bridges. Georgia Athlete Magazine named it the best course, the organizers say. Maps of both courses are on the race’s FAQ page.

Race Through Oct. 15 Oct. 16 to race morning
Open 5K $45 plus $3.70 fee $50 plus $4 fee
Open 15K $55 plus $4.30 fee $60 plus $4.60 fee

Online registration closes at 8 a.m. on race day. There are no refunds. If the race is postponed or canceled for weather or an evacuation, it becomes a virtual race; an injured or sick runner may be offered a one-time deferral to the next year. The deadline to guarantee a shirt size was Sept. 15, and the organizers say shirts often sell out.

Parking and getting there

There is no entrance to The Fred from Highway 74. Come in from Peachtree Parkway and McIntosh Trail, the organizer’s directions and parking page says. Runners, volunteers and vendors park at The Fred and at Huddleston Elementary School. After 7:45 a.m., overflow parking moves to lots off Kelly Drive, and a shuttle runs from there.

The 11 a.m. cutoff is strict so the city can safely reopen its roads, the organizers say.

What to know

  • Walkers: welcome in both races. The 15K needs a 15-minute-mile pace or faster to beat the cutoff; anyone behind it is picked up by the sweep vehicle.
  • Strollers: allowed. Keep right and let faster runners pass.
  • Dogs: not allowed on the course. Service animals only.
  • Headphones: strongly discouraged.
  • Awards: top three men and women overall and masters on gun time; age groups on chip time, with corporate team awards too.
  • Volunteers: email Kris Mossburg at kmossburg70@gmail.com.
