Dog-friendly Peachtree City: the fenced dog park on McIntosh Trail, leashed walks at Line Creek and Somerby Woods, paths, The Avenue's patios and the leash rule.
Last checked Oct. 6, 2026. Rules and places come from the city’s and the venues’ own pages, linked. Patio policies are set by each restaurant; ask before you sit down.
Peachtree City is an easy town for dogs: a fenced off-leash park, three nature areas with trails and more than 100 miles of shared-use paths. The one rule to remember: outside the dog park, your dog is on a leash. Peachtree City is in Fayette County.
The leash rule
In city parks and recreation areas, “pets must be leashed unless posted” and owners must “clean up after all pets,” according to the city’s park rules on its lakes and fishing page. The full city code is in the Peachtree City Code of Ordinances. Report a park problem to Recreation, 770-631-2525. Police, non-emergency: 770-487-8866.

Source: the city’s dog park page. The association’s park rules say dogs must be leashed coming in and out and off leash inside; every dog must be current on rabies shots; owners must stay in the park, watching their dogs with a leash at hand; children under 12 need an adult; no food or personal toys; and waste must be picked up right away (bags and bins are provided).
Leashed walks
| Place | Where | What it is | Dogs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Line Creek Nature Area | Line Creek Drive, off Highway 54 | 70 acres, almost 3 miles of nature trails, creek and granite outcrops | Leash required |
| Somerby Woods Nature Area | 300 Rockaway Road | 40-acre preserve, 0.7-mile out-and-back trail, small pond | Leash required |
| Flat Creek Nature Area | Starts at 201 McIntosh Trail | Boardwalk trail through wetlands | Leash (city park rule) |
| J.K. “Chip” Conner Island | Path south from 110 Battery Way | Island park on Lake Peachtree, reached by footbridge | Leash (city park rule) |
The city’s nature areas page links to each one. At Line Creek, the city says many visitors bring dogs and reminds everyone they must be on a leash. Somerby Woods’ entrance is at the back of the parking lot of a senior living community; the trail is short and quiet, and the city calls it good for birding.
The paths
Peachtree City’s 100-plus miles of shared-use paths link neighborhoods, shopping centers, schools, parks and lakes, according to the city’s shared-use path page. They are shared with cyclists and golf carts, so keep your dog on a short leash and to the side. Trash receptacles line the paths. Our walking and biking trails guide has loops and parking.
Lakes
Lake Peachtree is for Peachtree City residents and their guests; Lake Kedron is owned by Fayette County and open to the public, with no swimming, according to the city’s lakes page. The path network crosses Lake Kedron on a bridge beside Peachtree Parkway and runs along Lake Peachtree at Battery Way Park. At city ponds such as Huddleston Pond, the city bans swimming, wading and any other contact with the water.
Shopping and patios
The Avenue Peachtree City, 239 City Circle, calls itself a “dog-friendly place to shop, dine, stroll, and gather” and runs Peachtree Paws, a volunteer ambassador program for local dogs and their owners, according to The Avenue’s Peachtree Paws page. The center has a Central Park green and patio dining. Whether a dog can join you on a particular patio is up to each restaurant.
The Visitor Center gift shop at 191 McIntosh Trail sells dog items, according to the visitors bureau.
